From Goody’s to Glitter: The Transformation of Nelson Estate Jewelers’ New Home

Hey there, jewelry lovers and renovation enthusiasts! We’ve got a sparkling update for you on our big move.

Remember that charming old Goody’s Cafe at 1862 W. Baseline Rd. in Mesa?

Well, it’s getting a major glow-up, and we can’t wait to show you what we’ve been up to!

The Journey Begins

Back in April 2021, we took a leap of faith and closed on this hidden gem of a building.

Little did we know, we were in for quite the adventure!

It’s been a whirlwind of activity since day one, turning this former eatery into a dazzling jewelry haven.

Out With the Old, In With the New

First things first – we had to clear out the remnants of Goody’s past life.

Would you believe we filled up twenty 40-yard dumpsters? That’s right, twenty!

It was like an archaeological dig, minus the dinosaur bones (though we did find some pretty interesting stuff).

Four people are seen from behind, working together to move a large, dark object on a cart in an unfinished room.

Once we had a clean slate, it was time to build our dream from the ground up.

We’re talking 14 full trucks of concrete, people!

That’s enough to make a small skateboard park, but we had bigger plans in mind.

Painting the Town… Well, Our Store

Next up was giving our new digs a fresh face.

We went through 35 gallons of paint – that’s enough to cover a football field!

Okay, maybe not quite, but it sure felt like it.

Every brush stroke brought us closer to our vision of a warm, welcoming space for our customers.

Safety First, Sparkle Second

We know your safety is as important as the clarity of our diamonds, so we pulled out all the stops.

New electrical wiring throughout the building? Check.

State-of-the-art fire sprinklers? Double-check.

We even built retention walls and did some serious iron work to make sure our new home is as solid as a 24-karat gold bar.

A single gray cinder block is partially set on top of a corner of a concrete block wall under construction. There is a hollow space beneath the elevated cinder block.

Oh, and let’s not forget the crowning glory – a brand new roof to keep all our precious gems (and customers) safe and dry!

What’s Next on Our Renovation Playlist?

We’re not done yet! Coming up on our to-do list:

  • Rolling out the drywall (our version of the red carpet)
  • Another round of painting (because you can never have too much color)
  • Laying down some fabulous flooring (to match our fabulous jewelry, of course)
Stacks of lumber and building materials are organized on a paved area next to a storefront with construction cones in the background.

Keeping It in the Family (Business)

Here’s something we’re really proud of – throughout this whole process, we’ve made it our mission to work with local and family-owned businesses.

The contractor who built our retention walls?

He’s an old friend of Dave’s – they go back 20 years!

And that gorgeous front door you’ll soon walk through?

A workshop with various tools and equipment. A large metal frame is clamped on a workbench in the center. Shelving units and tool storage are visible in the background.

Custom-built by a small local business.

Why does this matter to us?

We believe that when our community thrives, we all shine a little brighter.

It’s like setting a perfect diamond – the right setting makes all the difference.

The Grand Finale

So, when can you expect to see our sparkling new store?

We’re aiming for a grand opening in November 2024.

Mark your calendars, folks!

We can’t wait to welcome you into our new home, where the spirit of Goody’s Cafe meets the glamour of Nelson Estate Jewelers.

Stay tuned for more updates as we put the finishing touches on our jewelry paradise.

And hey, if you happen to drive by and see us covered in paint or wrestling with drywall, give us a honk and a wave.

We promise to look more presentable by opening day!

Until then, keep sparkling, Mesa!
